Council elections are conducted in May every two years, with the next election due in May 2005.

Council decided to abolish the existing ward boundaries and divide the district into four new wards currently named Nampup Ward, Holland Rock Ward, Mindarabin Ward and Pingarnup Ward.

This change resulted in a proposed reduction in the number of offices of councillor from ten to eight. Council decided to designate the following number of offices of Councillor for each ward:

• Nampup Ward (2)
• Holland Rock Ward (2)
• Mindarabin Ward (2)
• Pingarnup Ward (2)
