Council elections were held on Saturday 21 October 2017 with four councilors standing down after many years of service. Councillors Renae Jury, Mark Stephens and Gordon Browne retired following 8 years of service to the community with Renae and Mark also serving as Deputy Shire President during their terms. Councillor Megan Tuffley also retired after 14 years as a councillor and the last two years as President. During their terms the Shire of Kent has achieved much and is in an exceptionally healthy financial position. We thank them for their efforts and guidance over many years.
There were 5 candidates for the 4 positions and just over 50% of the electors of the shire voted in the postal election. The results were as follows:
Justin Germain 177
Craig Bamess 175
Kate Johnston 158
Kerryn Stephens 129
Ian Bailye 63
Congratulations to our new councilors and commiserations Ian Bailye who has missed out on a seat on this occasion. We all look forward to working with our new members to continue the good work that has been done by past councils.
