Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Membership
At the heart of every community, volunteer bushfire brigades play a crucial role in protecting lives, property and assisting with public safety. The Shire of Kent operates 6 Bush Fire Brigades across the shire, including two brigades with fire appliances and four farmer response brigades. Our Brigades are supported by Fire Control Officers and our Community Emergency Services Manager.
If you own, manage or work on a rural property in the Shire of Kent, you may find yourself assisting the in a bushfire response on or near your property, we refer to this as Farmer Response or Spontaneous Volunteers.
We are working to improve compliance with the WHS Act 2020 and making it easier for the Fire Control Officers to mobilise registered Farm Responders and Town Brigade members.
- We ask that all farm responders and permanent workforce register as a member in the Farmer Response brigade in your area.
- Registration is free and allows the Shire to provide training and Personal Protective Equipment as funding allow
To keep yourself, your property and other safe, the Shire encourages anyone that is likely to assist with bushfire response to become a registered volunteer with their local brigade. Members must complete the free DFES Rural Fire Awareness Training and complete an application to join the brigade of their residential area.
The Rural Fire Awareness Training is a self-paced course, taking approx. 2-3 hours to complete.

Once you have completed your online or in person training, it is asked that you register as a member by returning your certification of completion along with this membership form: Brigade Membership Application
