The Shire of Kent is taking a proactive step in planning for the future by developing a Public Health Plan and an Age-Friendly Community Plan. These plans are designed to ensure that our community remains healthy, safe, and welcoming for all ages, now and in the years to come.
Why Do We Need a Public Health Plan?
As part of the requirements under the Public Health Act 2016, all local governments in Western Australia must develop a Public Health Plan. This plan will help us identify and address the specific health needs of our community, focusing on prevention and early intervention. By understanding what impacts our health the most — we can support strategies and programs that directly improve our residents’ wellbeing.
The Benefits of an Age-Friendly Community Plan
The Age-Friendly Community Plan is another crucial element in our planning. With an aging population, it’s important to ensure that our community is inclusive and accessible for people of all ages, particularly our seniors. This plan will guide us in making improvements that support older residents to live active, healthy, and connected lives. This plan is about making our community a place where everyone can thrive, no matter their age.
How Will These Plans Guide Our Priorities?
Both the Public Health Plan and the Age-Friendly Community Plan will serve as roadmaps for the Shire of Kent, helping us to prioritise projects and allocate resources where they are needed most. These plans are informed by research, community input, and best practices, ensuring that our strategies are both effective and relevant. They are informing strategies that feed into our existing planning frameworks.
